Torrence Frank Shorter Sr.
Torrence Frank Shorter Sr. was born on July 22, 1973 in Chicago Illinois. Torrence attended Martin A. Ryerson Elementary and Rezin Orr High School. After graduating from high school he pursued his passion for cooking by attending culinary arts school where he received his sanitation license and began his career as a chef.Torrence was a loving father and husband to his wife Cicely L Shorter, his highschool sweetheart; and their six children. Torrence was a dedicated and fearless advocate for quality public education for all children, especially children with special needs. He was a Local School Council member for Laura Ward Elementary School(previously known as Ryerson.)
In addition to his six children, Torrence was a father figure to many young people in West Humboldt Park providing shelter, love, advice, a shoulder to cry on, food or just a good laugh. Torrence was the Board President of Blocks Together, working to bring Restorative Justice to schools in the community to prevent violence and student drop out, he worked to strengthen parent leadership inside local schools, and he organized to help bring jobs and more opportunities to the community he loved dearly. In honor of Torrence, BT named our community legal clinic in his name.

The Legal Clinic is a Partnership between the Beyond Legal Clinic and Blocks Together Serving the Westside of Chicago, providing legal assistance in the following area: Family Law, Civil Law, Housing Law, Immigration Law, Expungements. Clinic does not provide legal representation for criminal cases.
